Right now I'm working on my next book, THE PIANO GIRL OF SOHO, about a young woman pianist in 1875 London, who dresses as a man to perform in a music hall at night. Once that is finalized, I can start another ... and my editor has been nudging me to consider a new book about Paul and Elizabeth. I need to research around, figure out if I feel able to write a book set in 1875 America. It's very different than 1870s London!

One is about a young woman in London in 1875 who cross-dresses to play piano in a music hall in order to fund her education--and stumbles into a mystery involving the music hall and the people who work there. The other is an historical police procedural, set in Scotland Yard in 1878; a beautiful, wealthy dead girl floats down the Thames in a boat one morning, and Inspector Michael Corravan, a former bare-knuckles boxer from Whitechapel, has to figure out why. The first one is more like LADY than the second, but I hope I've kept the kinds of characters, the atmosphere, and the research people seemed to like in my first book. Thanks for asking! :)(less)

Scotland Yard Scandal of 1877

Most people think of Scotland Yard as the elite organization within the Metropolitan Police.
