Yes, this is everything I'd been hoping for from this series! I found these characters to be much more well-thought out and relatable than in the previous two books. That also could just be my bias towards the Duke already, plus the fact that I am the (North) American who is rowdy and very different from Europeans living in Europe.

Using their gifts, they determine the culprit is none other than Delaney Temple, one of the “Terrible Two”, she and her twin brother recently arrived from America, gossip has it that Delaney is a hellion, an heiress with no interest in marriage. Julian knows that she accessed the book when she came to his home and pretended to need help with her carriage, but they want to know why and more importantly how she was able to copy a book with more than a thousand pages when she had less than 10 minutes. These are questions that need answers and Sebastian Tremont, the Duke of Ashcroft is the man to get them!

But when Sebastian approaches Delaney, he is dumbstruck by her, and unfortunately, before he can regain his senses, he is stung by a bee and suffers an allergic reaction. Delaney jumps into action and saves his life by removing the stinger and giving him mouth to mouth – an act that parkgoers assume was a kiss. Delaney takes Sebastian back to her home and tends him and in doing so learns more about him and the League. Delaney doesn’t want to harm the members, she has a gift herself – she stores information in what she calls her “attic” which contains all the books and information she has collected – she enters and it is like a library and she can reread anything she has stored. But her gift isn’t the reason she is interested in the League, someone is blackmailing her and demanding information about The chronology and the League’s members – someone who followed her from America and will destroy not only her but her brother as well if she doesn't comply.

When Sebastian recovers, he wants answers, but Delaney isn’t cooperating, so he whisks her and her brother away to his castle in Oxfordshire. Sebastian and Delaney try to figure out who is blackmailing her and soon realize that her blackmailer is not the threat they believed. Once the threat has passed, Sebastian finally has to confront his attraction to Delaney and attracted though he is and even though his feelings are engaged, Sebastian is sure Delaney is all wrong for him, he is a Firestarter and thinks he needs someone who will calm him and it is clear that Delaney inflames him. But the heart wants what the heart wants and once they give in to their passion, Sebastian decides that they will marry – too bad Delaney doesn’t agree to his terms.

This is the second book I have read by this author, and I am still not sure if I am a fan or not. The author’s writing style is at times almost secretive – like the author doesn’t want the reader to be privy to any of the character's secrets or inner thoughts, but this book was less so than the first book I read. She also butchers formal address and nobility titles – again, not as bad in this book as the first -but still enough to be annoying to me. Personally, I found this story was much more engaging than the previous book I read and I found Sebastian and Delaney very easy to like, the chemistry between them was amazing (the author did a great job with their slow-burn romance) and Sebastian's final proposal was magnificent. So while she nailed their interactions, I felt that the mystery of the blackmailer was completely anticlimactic and the storyline was dropped about the halfway point and seemed to be forgotten until the epilogue. Overall, it was a decent read, but still not something I would read again. This is the third book in the series and I would recommend reading the books in order as the author can be a bit stingy about sharing details.

Tracy Sumner, where have you been all my life! I’ve never read anything like the league of lords series and it’s exactly what I needed — such an enchanting mix of the historical romances I grew up on that also brings the itch-scratching satisfaction of the paranormal/supernatural genre, and did I mention they’re hot as hell? 🔥 Once you start I can guarantee you won’t get any work done until you’ve finished them all. I haven’t read the previous two, but it was reasonably easy to pick up the general context and rules of the world, and the characters who had obviously featured in previous books were given a light introduction so we had their backstory. The Duke of the title is Ashcroft, Sebastian as we know him for much of the book, who has certain abilities with fire - and a problem of control. Despite his issues, he knows he needs to marry, and preferably another member of the League, so selects a suitable young lady. Meeting brash American Delaney Temple upends all his plans, however, since he is stung by a bee at their first meeting and she promptly saves his life - with mouth to mouth resuscitation, causing a massive scandal.

There’s a curious subplot here where Delaney is being blackmailed for… I’m still not precisely sure what. Information, I assume, since that is her talent; she has a mental ‘attic’ where she stores inconceivable amounts of information she can then access at her leisure, and she has memorized the League’s codex of information on paranormal abilities - which is why they can’t let her go. The thing that’s a bit odd is that the blackmail plot is never really followed up, though it seems it may be in the subsequent book.

Delaney and Sebastian as a couple are fabulous, striking literal sparks as two strong personalities clash. I definitely bought into the romance between them (and enjoyed the bedroom scenes which are quite steamy) but at times it did seem to come at the expense of actually explaining overly complicated plot devices. Delaney, for example, is asked to help decipher some codes for the League - but we’re never told what the codes are all about or why they need deciphering. They’re a throwaway device to show that she can be useful to them, which was ridiculous because her abilities made her usefulness obvious.

I kind of like this idea of a team of Victorian-era superheroes, but I’m just not sure where the author is going with it, because there doesn’t seem to be any sort of overarching mission or adversary for them. I’ll give it four stars, because I did like the romance part very much and I like the concept, but some of the plot falls a bit short for my tastes.

A fun, cute slow burn with a bit of magical action/adventure thrown in.

[What I liked:]

•The prologue reminds me of Frozen—a young child is blessed (cursed?) with a supernatural gift, who is cowed into hiding it. This inspired empathy in me for Sebastian early on, and made me want to follow his journey to finding self-acceptance.

•The prose is decent: easy to follow, a good balance of description and dialogue, with nice touches of wit & humor.

The plot and world of this book are great and very creative and the characters all have their own distinctive voices and you really find yourself caring for them as they are. I will admit I'm a sucker for the enemies to lovers trope, but this is a prime example of it being done well. A beautifully written paranormal.
What an awesome story Sebastian and Delaney were so cool! I enjoyed this fantasy romance a great deal. Reading about the talents that the league has was great. I loved the setup at the end for Simon can’t wait to read his story! The book is beautifully written with great dialogue between all the characters. I knew this was the 3rd book, but it wasn't a great stand-alone effort. There was so much half-baked detail that clearly came from previous books that I was irritated most of the book. I really wanted a better explanation of Delaney and how her story really connected to the League. It felt like the author jumped over scenes without finishing them, leaving the reader wondering what happened.

I did not know this was the third in a series when I got it to read. It was an enjoyable, well told story which left me needing to go back and read books one and two and then get book four when it comes out. Sebastian may be your typical tortured gorgeous male main character but he is different enough to keep your interest. This book focuses on Sebastian Tremont, Duke of Ashcroft who has been plagued with his ‘gift/curse’ of being able to spontaneously start fires all his life. Having joined the League of Lords he is hugely protective of the group where he feels a sense of family and belonging for the first time. When the League realise that they are being investigated by a brash American heiress he is determined to find out why and stop her at all costs. He isn’t however, prepared for the explosive feelings she rouses in him.
Delaney Temple is in trouble. She is being blackmailed by an unknown person into finding out about the mysterious League of Lords and the secrets they are hiding. With her unusual mental abilities, she is getting very close. She cannot afford to fail. When she finds herself saving the life of the Duke of Ashcroft, Delaney and her twin brother are dragged into the very world she was investigating – but it seems she may actually have found the elusive sense of belonging she has been searching for her whole life.
Sebastian and Delaney mistrust each other but can’t deny the invisible bond between them. Can they admit their feelings and fight for the right to be together?
Sebastian is oh my goodness such a swoon-worthy hero. Tall, dark, handsome, protective, loyal and honourable he is a dream. He had already endeared me to him through his actions in the previous book where he gave up his chance of a measure of peace so his friend and fellow member of the league Finn could gain the love of his life. His gift is one of the most destructive in the group and he struggled with it all his life facing scorn and hate from his father – leading to addictions and self-destructive behaviour. With the help of the rest of the League he is learning to control his talent but is terrified of being the cause of harm to his loved ones which is why he is so unsettled by his feelings for Delaney and it took him a while to accept that it is possible for a future together.
Delaney is definitely not your usual heroine. She is fiercely intelligent, competitive, brave and loving. She sees beyond the trappings of the dukedom and loves Sebastian for the man he is, scars and all. Having her own difficulties with her gift, she is accepting of Sebastian’s and is determined to make him see that their love can be a healing balm instead of a destructive force.
I loved Sebastian and Delaney’s story. The intensity of their feelings and their passion for each other fairly leapt off the page whenever they were together. Whilst the background story as to who was blackmailing Delaney and the realisation of how she fit into the League was fascinating, the main focus was always the romance between Sebastian and Delaney. I liked that they recognised their feelings for each other fairly early on and didn’t deny their bond. It was how they both overcome their fears and insecurities that carried the book. I loved revisiting the previous heroes and heroines from the series and being led back into the lives of the members of the League. The story leads us nicely into the next book in the series The Hellion is Tamed and I already have it on pre-order.

The series is pure gold, no doubt about it. The world of hidden gifts that torment the heroes and heroines of this world is very relatable and understandable. The camaraderie that has built up between each of the characters and the supporting characters is enough to warm hearts it keeps you coming back to read the next in the series.

The hero has been there for each of the previous characters and is looking for a wife. His gift of starting fires is getting too much and he needs an heir quick and The series is pure gold, no doubt about it. The world of hidden gifts that torment the heroes and heroines of this world is very relatable and understandable. The camaraderie that has built up between each of the characters and the supporting characters is enough to warm hearts it keeps you coming back to read the next in the series.

The hero has been there for each of the previous characters and is looking for a wife. His gift of starting fires is getting too much and he needs an heir quick and he doesnt mind who fills the duchess position. The heroine, with her library of a mind is always getting into trouble. Doesn't help that she's on the wrong side of the tracks and continent, and she seems to be trying to gain information about the world that the duke is part of.

When they meet she helps save the duke's life, though of course it is enough to cause scandal around town. When the duke realises how much trouble she is in, he brings her and her brother into the fold with the other characters and they strike a bargain. While the chemistry is off the charts between them, the story weaves quite cleverly around the who is threatening the league, who could possibly want their secrets and how they could possibly neutralise that threat.

The drama between the two leads to its final conclusion of a ring on the heroine's finger after a few missteps on the duke's part and a very nice segue-way into the next book.

The story is quite entertaining no doubt, there is never a dull moment, the chemistry and the burning of the sheets between them is mind blowing, however there are a few things that trip this book up a little. The push and pull between the two starts to get annoying, a little unnecessary at certain instances. There is drama created when it should not have. At points, the duke's character seemed to deviate from the personality that has been laid down for him from the previous books. The heroine tends to feel more bitchy than independent and that is painful to read, she does not endear in some moments.

The book, though stand alone, adds more to the characters already introduced, though at times, they all come across as two-dimensional than the loveable characters you are thirsting for more glimpses of. Not the author's fault considering there are so many plot points being woven here, each character still has an arc that is growing, along with each relationship that is growing with worries, gift control and all. It hits on so many issues at the same point, there is not enough time given to assign an emotion to the incident / moment. It tends to dilute the drama that is going on with the main character's because of all this.

That is not to say it is not a fun read, it is a lovely read and a quick read at that. The duke is just so engaging as are the other men, since they get quite a bit of page time. The world is growing a bit more and it's exciting to see where this is going. Definitely worth a read, though only if you've been reading the previous books. ...more

Oh my what can I say about this story of enemies to friends to lover's or are they. This story can be read as a stand alone but you will lose so much of why the characters act like they do. A family of misfits, all with supernatural gifts. No one is who he or she seems. All have secrets and desires hidden behind past hurts and loneliness.

He is known by his new family and friends, "The League of Lords" as fireball. He can will fires to start when he is up set or drunk or just thinking about it. Julian, Finn, Humphrey, and Simon all have "Gifts". We meet then in the first two books, and all are back with some interesting wives to help.
Sebastian needs to find a wife so he can provide a son.. He has decided to marry Honoria a member of the League also with her own gift. He doesn't really like her calls her Lady Nuisance of all things.
Then he meets one Delaney Temple known as The Terrible Two with her brother Chase.
I love Delaney as she loves books, riddles, and can go to her attic and find out anything faster the google. It's wonderful..... she is smart as a whip and loves betting on things women don't do In England. Like gamble, chess, horse racing to name a few. She is great.
The duke and her spike the air around them while trying not to show the other what they really feel.
This book has mystery, lots of steamy trysts and secrets. Two people who don't trust easy and have no one to believe in.
This is a fun read between a very proper English Duke and an American who thinks England and all its rules are silly and does just what she wants.
This is fast read; one I hope you get. There is a lot going on and most has to come in the proper order to enjoy the whole story. The story is great but the Epilogue will have you sighing with what
is going to be coming in the next book, not to be missed.
