I LOVED this book by Rachel Fordham! I have read and loved each of Rachel’s three previous books and this book A Lady in Attendance captivated me from the prologue to the very last word. Hazel and Gilbert’s story has love, friendship, forgiveness, and redemption woven seamlessly throughout the story.
Hazel needs to find employment straight out of reform school, and under an alias begins working as a lady in attendance (a modern-day dental assistant) for the noticeably quiet and gentle dentist, Doctor Gilbert Watts. As Hazel and Gilbert work together and become friends, Gilbert senses there are secrets in Hazel’s past.
As Hazel works to clear her name, and develops some devoted and loyal friendships, there is also some mystery and suspense that make an exciting conclusion to the book and pave the way for Hazel and Gilbert to be able to find lasting love.
When I finished this book, I felt like I was with Hazel and Gilbert, living in the 1890’s in upstate New York. Closing the cover at the end felt like I lost my best friends. When a book draws you in like that, it is worth five stars! Thank you, Rachel Fordham!
