A Reader's Opinion: INTERIOR DESIGN AND OTHER EMOTIONS by Kate Forest

Updated: Feb 4, 2020

A READER'S OPINION

INTERIOR DESIGN AND OTHER EMOTIONS by Kate Forest is not a typical romance. I almost didn't read the book because I wasn't sure what to expect from the title. I was surprised and pleased by how the story turned out. Gina Giancarlo is an autistic interior designer who has only ever wanted to be like everyone around her. Tired of being different, Gina joins a drug trial that might give her the chance she's always wanted to be "normal." Chris Rinaldi is kind of a womanizer who is more interested in being successful than having a meaningful relationship. That is, until he meets Gina. Chris has to "grow up" and realize that there's more to life than making money and being a player.

Gina's characters is well-rounded and shows a lot of depth. Her journey is really empowering and it impacts everyone around her, especially Chris who goes through is own changes on a journey to become a better person. His transformation is a little too out there because he has a long way to go but I ended up liking his character in the end. The author created a flawed protagonist who is endearing, and I like how she is portrayed and how strong she is. Will they find a way to make their love last without the help of the so-called miracle drug? Will Chris revert back to his old ways? INTERIOR DESIGN AND OTHER EMOTIONS is a unique story about two different people who find each other in an unexpected way.

BOOK SYNOPSIS

There are side effects to falling in love. Gina Giancarlo is an interior design genius, fast as lightning with numbers…and autistic. Yearning to be just like everyone else, she joins a drug trial that promises to help her experience a full range of emotions. With the ink still wet on his MBA, Chris Rinaldi has only two goals—make bags of cash and bag lots of women. Dancing on the edge of insider trading, he pushes his company to buy stock in a pharmaceutical firm because of its promising new autism drug. As Gina’s understanding of the world blossoms, she forms a connection with the Wall Street hustler, who appreciates her—quirks and all. And for the first time since his sister’s death, Chris experiences true emotions with a woman who has recently discovered passion herself. Gina believes the pills are responsible for her awakening. Chris knows they’re responsible for his success. And when the drug is discontinued, the cost of “normal” might bankrupt their future.
