A DEFENSE OF HONOR by Kristi Ann Hunter - A Reader's Opinion

A Reader's Opinion

A beautiful and inspiring story of forgiveness, love, and faith.

One of my favorite things about A Defense of Honor is the unique take on a too-common occurrence during historical periods. The Regency era is a favorite of mine, and it's nice to read something different.

Kristi Ann Hunter's delightful prose, interesting characters, and inspiring faith gave this book a wonderful foundation upon which she created a beautiful story.

All of the characters are easy to like. Kit has so much to offer the world if only she would allow herself to forgive the mistakes of her past. She's strong and true, and her journey is inspiring. Graham is an absolute delight. I don't always have a favorite between hero and heroine in a book, but Graham rose to the top with his boyish charm, chivalry, and loyalty to family and friends. I easily pictured his smiling face every time something excited him. There were a few moments when I questioned his behavior and thought he needed to come down off his pedestal, but he redeemed himself.

There are elements of faith woven into the story, though more toward the end when talking of God and scripture becomes more prominent. I appreciate the realistic struggle the characters went through in terms of questioning themselves, their actions, and their ability to forgive, along with accepting and overcoming their imperfections. Perhaps a person needs to be in the right mindset to fully appreciate all the underlying messages. I know I did. The book is definitely written for Christian readers, but I think it's a nice story for any reader who enjoys a wholesome and inspiring historical romance.

The secondary characters of Daphne and Jess, who help run Haven Manor, were equally interesting, and I look forward to their books

A Defense of Honor

Haven Manor, Book 1

When Katherine "Kit" FitzGilbert turned her back on London society more than a decade ago, she determined never to set foot in a ballroom again. But when business takes her to London and she's forced to run for her life, she stumbles upon not only a glamorous ballroom but also Graham, Lord Wharton. What should have been a chance encounter becomes much more as Graham embarks on a search for his friend's missing sister and is convinced Kit knows more about the girl than she's telling.

After meeting Graham, Kit finds herself wishing things could have been different for the first time in her life, but what she wants can't matter. Long ago, she dedicated herself to helping women escape the same scorn that drove her from London and raising the innocent children caught in the crossfire. And as much as she desperately wishes to tell Graham everything, revealing the truth isn't worth putting him and everyone she loves in danger.
